Leaders In Training

Gain leadership skills that you will use for the rest of your life.

If you are going into grade 9 and would like to grow in your leadership skills, then this program is for you! Join a group of people your age who would like to grow and gain hands on leadership experience in a supportive environment. This program will help you make the transition from being a camper to being an amazing leader.

  • Get a little bit out of your comfort zone.

  • Gain experience making a resume and doing an interview

  • Lead kids through lessons, sport and activities.

  • Do things that are a bit difficult, succeed and grow in confidence.

  • Grow in communication skills (public speaking, large group, with peers, adults, kids)

  • Have a lot of fun!

Once you have signed up for Leaders In Training (LIT), there are three parts to the program

Part 1 - Send in a resume, and some reference letters and have an interview. (You will receive an email with an outline for the resume and reference letters once registration is complete)

Part 2 - Join us for a weekend of training on May 29,30,31. (May 30-31 is an overnight camping trip)

Part 3 - Sign up to be a LIT at camp. You can choose to come for one week or all 6 or anything in-between.

Part 1 - Resume, Reference Letters and Interview

After signing up for Leaders In Training (LIT) please:

  • Send a resume along with answering a few questions to camp@campwanago.ca. You can find out more information here.

  • Ask two people to fill out a reference form.

  • Have an interview. In your interview we will ask you to teach us something, anything you want, teach us do a trick, solve a math problem, play a song, draw something it doesn’t matter what you teach us, we just want to hear you and learn more about you.

Part 2 - May Weekend

Once you have finished sending in your resume and interview we have a leadership weekend planned.

Friday May 29 - Meet at 6699 Falconer (party room).

  • What is leadership.

  • Get to know each other.

  • How to work as a group.

  • Plan camping.

Saturday May 30 (9:00am)- Go hiking and camping

  • Meet at Derry Rd/6th lIne

  • Drop off camping equipment in car.

  • Start hike along the Bruce Trail to Hilton Falls.

  • Take turns along the way leading hike.

  • Stop for lunch

  • Set up camp site, make dinner, afternoon and evening session.

Sunday, May 31 - At Hilton Falls Campsite (Milton)

  • Make breakfast

  • Morning session

  • Leadership games

  • 2:00 pick up

Part 3 - Volunteer at Camp

Choose a week or 2 or all of them and come and volunteer at camp. We will partner you with an older leader, and have a check in each day after camp to see how things are going. Get ready to have a great time and learn a lot this summer!
